Governors Island Intimate Wedding: Krissy and Mike

Ever since it opened to the public my husband and I have loved going to Governors Island. The island has really be transformed from its heyday as various military bases to an oasis in the middle of NYC for relaxation, picnics, bike riding and special events like the Jazz Age Law Party. It sits just off lower Manhattan and has spectacular views of it. The ferry is free or inexpensive and runs Memorial Day through Labor Day.

I was so thrilled when Krissy contacted me about doing her wedding there! The wedding itself went according to plan, with one little issue, it rained almost the entire time. It was just one of those early summer storms that poured a steady rain all afternoon making their wedding one I know the guests will never forget! Imagine riding surries all over the island in the rain, it was quite an adventure. But the wedding went on! It was really pretty fun.

The first look was held at Elevated Acres and then everyone took the ferry to Governors Island. The ceremony was officiated by Officiant NY at the Admiral’s House. After touring the island and stopping for snacks, typically there are lots of food carts on the island, but some had left due to the weather, everyone boarded the ferry back to Manhattan.

After the rain, Il Buco was the perfect place to warm up over appetizers and dinner. The private wine cellar was a cozy ending to quite an adventure.
