Never did I dream I’d get to photograph a rooftop micro wedding in my beloved Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Back in early 2006 my soon to be husband and I moved into a basement apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We fell in love with the neighborhood. Over two different apartments and five years we watched it change and enjoyed the bars, restaurants and quirky shops. I even did a widely published project about the area and Williamsburg. I loved walking around the then quiet industrial streets taking photos.
However, like all good things, and other young couples with a child, our time in the city ended. We eventually decamped to New Jersey and bought a house. But my memories of Greenpoint will endure. (What I wouldn’t give for some Pauli Gee’s right now!) What fun it was this September to photograph a wedding in the heart of Greenpoint on a rooftop. And there was a brass band playing ska (Mighty Mighty Bosstones! You need this band at your wedding or event), a ceremony with an amazing view, and adorable details galore.
While the pandemic changed this couple’s plans to marry in WI, their Brooklyn rooftop micro wedding was amazing! I’m in awe of the celebration they and their friends pulled off in a short time. It was personal (their cat was an inspiration), detailed (framed photos of those who couldn’t be there) and fun. And in a twist none of their guests saw coming during the ceremony, I pronounced them married! (Their friend performed the ceremony, but I was their legal officiant.)
