Little Owl Venue Wedding

It may be the darkest time of the year, but Alexandra and Juan Lorenzo’s winter wedding was full of light and love. The ceremony was held at the Church of the Guardian Angel which was full of red poinsettias left over from Christmas. JL and Alexandra decided not to see each other before the ceremony which meant that all of their portraits would have to be taken at night and during a short window before dinner. This can be a challenge for photographers, but I did a little planning and hired a lighting assistant to make things run smoothly. We had the limo driver drop us off a few block from the restaurant and took photos on the way using the holiday lights that were still up in the shots. Turns out I scouted a few of the couple’s favorite spots in the West Village. 🙂

The reception was held at Little Owl Venue which is a rather intimate space, but worked perfectly for a seated dinner of thirty family. It was neat for guests to watch all of the food being prepared right there. After dinner, the room was transformed to a dance floor and an additional thirty guests arrived for dessert and drinks. (They baked chocolate chip cookies right there and the smell was amazing!) The party went on until late and I know everyone was having a great time. (And I’d have loved to have stayed and danced all night, they were playing some of my favorite songs!)
