One of the things I love most about photographing intimate weddings and elopements is finding places that feel like a peaceful escape without ever leaving New York City. These garden and nature-inspired locations offer beautiful settings for your ceremony while also making the rest of your day easy to plan. They’re all close to great hotels, restaurants, and additional photo locations, so you can spend less time traveling and more time celebrating. Whether you’re planning a simple ceremony followed by lunch or an intimate wedding with your closest family and friends, these spots offer some of the best value in the city—combining memorable scenery, convenient logistics, and unforgettable places to celebrate afterward.
Timing for a Garden Wedding in NYC
Timing can make a big difference when planning a garden ceremony. For the best flowers and greenery, I generally recommend scheduling between mid-April and mid-October. If you’re dreaming of colorful fall foliage, aim for mid-October through mid-November. In most years, the first week of November offers the peak autumn color in New York City, though Mother Nature doesn’t always follow the calendar.
If you’re hoping for a specific bloom, it’s worth planning around the season. The Wisteria Pergola in Central Park typically reaches its peak during the first or second week of May, although warmer springs can bring blooms a little earlier. Cherry blossoms bloom throughout April, with different varieties flowering at different times. If the cherry blossoms are your priority, I recommend choosing a date during the middle two weeks of April at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, when you’re most likely to catch the garden at its most spectacular.
Affordable Garden Ceremony Ideas
Shakespeare Garden, Central Park
Budget: $25 for an NYC Parks ceremony permit. Permission for a chuppah needs to be obtained when applying for the permit.
Tucked away near Belvedere Castle, Shakespeare Garden feels like a hidden English cottage garden in the middle of Manhattan. Winding stone paths, seasonal blooms, and a peaceful atmosphere make it one of my favorite ceremony locations for couples looking for a romantic spot without leaving Central Park behind. You can pick from several spot in the garden for your ceremony: The Charles B Stover Bench (pictured above) or the steps near the Swedish Marionette Theater. (pictured below)
Celebrate after: Continue the celebration with lunch or dinner at the Central Park Boathouse or Tavern on the Green.

Conservatory Garden, Central Park

The only formal garden in Central Park, Conservatory Garden offers elegant Italian, French, and English-inspired landscapes complete with fountains, pergolas, and beautifully maintained seasonal flowers. It’s one of the most refined outdoor ceremony locations in New York City.

Jefferson Market Garden

Nestled beside the iconic Jefferson Market Library, this charming community garden is one of the West Village’s best-kept secrets. Filled with colorful flowers and winding garden paths, it offers an intimate setting that feels surprisingly secluded in the heart of Manhattan.
Celebrate after: Walk over to Palma, whose candlelit garden courtyard perfectly complements the romantic atmosphere. Alternatively, have your entire wedding at Palma. Their retractible roof provides an excellent weather back-up.
Milk and Roses, Greenpoint

Tucked away in Greenpoint, Milk and Roses feels like stepping into a secret European garden. The space blends a cozy, library-style interior with a romantic ivy-covered courtyard filled with twinkle lights, making it one of the most atmospheric restaurant-garden venues in Brooklyn. It’s especially beautiful for couples who want an effortless setup where the space itself already feels styled and intimate.

I used to live around the corner from their first location in Greenpoint. I always try and stop in for a pastry or affogato when in the area. It is really a cool location for a small wedding.

Celebrate after: End the day with dinner at The Bonnefont, a charming restaurant inside the park that continues the neighborhood’s old-world atmosphere.
Brooklyn Botanic Garden

If you’ve always dreamed of getting married in a botanical garden but don’t need a full reception on-site, Brooklyn Botanic Garden offers one of the best values in New York City. Intimate ceremonies take place before the garden opens to the public on Saturday and Sunday mornings, giving you nearly private access to some of the garden’s most beautiful locations. Couples looking for a traditional reception can also host a catered wedding at the Palm House or Atrium, though those events are better suited to larger celebrations.
