Best pie ever

December 29th, 2008 klmay

My grandmother “Granny” surprised my husband and I with a delicious cherry custard pie over the holidays. (As if we needed any more sweets!) But this pie was fantastic and had a little story behind it. While vacationing at Robber’s Cave State Park in Oklahoma about 40 years ago, Granny encountered this type of pie at a restaurant run there by “country folk”.? She made her own version and has been baking it ever since. (but usually with a regular pie crust, not graham cracker) In any case, it was quite a find.

Lacombe Cemetery #3

I am delighted and at the same time sad upon finding out an image of mine was choosen for the Save Our Cemeteries Cemeteryscape exhibit. I recieved the letter of acceptance too late to send the piece in for the show which opens on December 13th at Canal Place in New Orleans. I guess there is always next year, but I do wish they would notify via email! Go see the exhibit if you are in New Orleans during the next few weeks, I am sure it will be interesting.

I shot this image in Lacombe, Louisiana on All Saints Day. Relatives light candles and beautify the graves in a moving tribute to their ancestors.
