Class of 1998

Despite swearing I’d never attend a high school reunion when I was in high school, I actually attended my 10 year one last night – and I could not be happier I went. It was really great to see so many people I went to school with from third grade on after over ?11 years. (I was in Germany my senior year as an exchange student)??I started taking pictures somewhat seriously in high school and taught myself how to make black and white prints. I loved those weekends in the darkroom, but I really wish I had grown-up with digital because I could have afforded to take more pictures! But, I took a good bit between 1995-1997 and my favorites are scanned and you can see them here.

Duchess' First Love – And mine too!

November 3rd, 2008 klmay

It is finally time for hot tea again! During the summer my apartment is so hot, I can’t imagine consuming anything that isn’t frozen or full of ice cubes. As the leaves change it is a great time for some of Tay Tea’s fantastic Duchess’ First Love blend. The mixture of Earl Grey, rooibos and caramel is so comforting and delicious, I actually want to get out of bed in the morning to get a cup!? I first discovered Tay Tea at the NYC Coffee and Tea festival a few years back. You can order online or drop by ABC Home at 888 Broadway (19th St.) or Jan and Aya in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Cat's Meow

November 1st, 2008 klmay

My husband and I awoke to a strange noise, at least it was 10 am. It sounded like a cat meowing outside so I quickly verified our two cats were in and he went to see what it was. Turns out my landlady’s big orange cat who I had only seen once, was somehow stuck on top of an awning over the alleyway. We saw that there was a window right on the fire escape cracked just a few inches and it seems “Orange” (or whatever his Polish name is) had gotten out and landed on the awning a few feet under the fire escape. Our landlady wasn’t home, but I noticed a ladder in the yard and Ryan got it out to go fetch the cat down. As soon as it saw that, the cat freaked out and decided to jump back onto the fire escape and fit its way back inside the wind0w crack. I guess all it needed was a little encouragement.

UPDATE: I told the landlady about the morning’s event and showed her the picture, which was a shock to her. Turns out that “Orange” is actually called Coco. And Coco has a twin, Rocco, who was taken to the vet this morning because he was losing weight. My landlady said the vet found something and he was having surgery this afternoon. I guess Coco was freaking out without Rocco and decided to escape to find him?? Our thoughts are with Rocco and hope he and Coco can be reunited soon.
