I am staying 1.5 miles from the workshop classroom and dining hall. Which isn’t an issue really, it just means I have to walk or hitch a ride with Marty, the van driver, or someone else.? I prefer to walk because the food here is actually pretty good (cookies, ice cream, great vegetarian options at every meal) and don’t want to pay for the indulgence. Besides, you can always find interesting things along the road, even in a quaint place like Rockport.
You have got to love the spirit and ingenuity of the people of Maine. (As witnessed on a van outside a camping supply store in Rockport) Great weather this week too!

Hello from Camden, Maine! For the third year in a row I am in Maine for a week assisting National Geographic photographer Ira Block at the The Maine Photographic Workshops. I usually stay at a house in the Rockport area, but this year I am in Camden about a mile up the coast at a lovely little hotel, The Inn at Camden Place. We have 10 students from all over the US and one from Mexico. Should be an interesting week, I’ll try and post images everyday.
It is over, I’m finished with school! Everything went well for the review today. Nothing missing. No scary hard questions. Just a really nice end to a very inspiring year.? As soon as I get it compatible with all browsers, I’m going to launch my new website which will really kick off my post-graduation career, I hope.
To those reading this who helped, critiqued, in any way inspired me during the last 11 months THANK YOU!!!!
This time tomorrow, it will be all over and I will officially graduate from The School of Visual Arts MPS Digital Photography program. One of my fellow students hosted an end of class party at her home in Long Beach last Friday. Her thoughtful husband got the above cake for us. So cute. I guess we do love those pixels, or rather what they make when you have 3000 x 3000 of them. And yes, it really tasted as good as it looks and it was filled with ice cream and chocolate crunchies.
All 13 of us have a review session with the chair and two invited reviewers tomorrow. Should be interesting! Wish me luck, I go on at 11….
Ok, I couldn’t resist. One block over and it would have been on Berry Street. Bless the Angel’s Bakery for having such a cool truck.
For years I have been telling people I am a pescatarian, and now it is really a word! Merriam-Webster Inc. added this and 100 other words to its Collegiate Dictionary today. Link
_Pescatarian (1993): vegetarian whose diet includes fish.
My husband surprised me with a beautiful book by Chinese photographer Fan Ho for my birthday yesterday. We recently saw his work in the Modern Book exhibit at the New York affordable art fair. Hong Kong Yesterday is a wonderful collection of Ho’s work in the 1950’s and 1960’s. You can see more of his work here.
